With the recent discovery of both Meltdown and Spectre I’ve been dispatched to do some patching. This has led to more than a few compatibility and interoperability checks- fun times indeed.
I then realised I’ve (oddly) never found myself in this position before- having to check compatibility for a version of VUM that has already been installed. Finding the VUM build number in Windows environments is, thankfully, easy when you know how.
Open the following log file-
c:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware Update Manager\Logs\vmware-vum-server-1.txt
The VUM build number is listed at the top of the file
This can then be cross linked to a version number before doing an interoperability check prior to patching.
